Thomas Rehm

Head of Group Sustainable Chemical Syntheses at Fraunhofer Institute for Microengineering and Microsystems IMM

Biography

Thomas Rehm studied chemistry in Würzburg and completed his doctorate with Prof Carsten Schmuck in 2008, specializing in supramolecular polymer chemistry. After a postdoctoral stay with Prof Frank Würthner, working on perylenediimides for DNA/RNA recognition, he moved to Fraunhofer IMM in Mainz, Germany in 2011 and is now head of group for Sustainable Chemical Syntheses. The research focus of this group is on the application of continuous flow technology in combination with multiple catalysis methods for fine chemical syntheses. In particular, research is currently being carried out into photochemically assisted biocatalysis for the cascaded synthesis of chiral drug precursors.
